  1. Most schemes that attempt to mitigate carbon emissions fail. CDM? As developed by the UN. An utter failure, grotesquely abused by China, India and a host of others. Time after time it was found that there was “no additionally” in any CDM projects . I have chapter & verse on this covering nearly 10 years. CDM = a fig leaf to allow the likes of China to keep on emitting – whilst pretending they were doing something.

    Then we move to the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme. A total failure – no impact on emissions what so ever – not my view – that of Vattenfall stated publicly at a meeting (in the summer of 2016 from memory – I took contemporaneous notes – I was there) organised by the Commission to promote/explain the latest changed to the ETS.

    The only “benefits” that came from CDM and ETS is that banks and finance organisations make some money by “trading”.

    Carbon off-sets are another shells & pea “game”. Feel good for airlines. “Oh look we are doing something”. The use of orgs like Verra allows governments to avoid responsibility for doing this themselves. This should be a government action. Again, there is precedent: most of the orgs that certify that fishing is dolphin friendly, “green” whatever, have been shown to be money making operations. The certificates they issue are worthless and meaningless. My family has, as a consequence, stopped eating all seafood & I’m encouraging others to do the same. In the same way, I am certain as the article suggests that carbon off-sets are not worth the paper they are written on & that Verra is running a crooked operation.

    Addressing the climate disaster and the ecological disaster that rolls with it will not be accomplished by Verra or “putting a price on carbon”. Neither will it be addressed by idiots flying long distance on holiday. Time to get real people.
