The European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (eceee) is Europe’s largest and oldest NGO dedicated to energy efficiency. eceee generates and provides evidence-based knowledge and analysis of policies. It facilitates co-operation and networking through Summer Studies, workshops, social media, web site and newsletter.
The next major event is in June and concerns industrial energy efficiency with a major emphasis on decarbonisation to meet our long-term objectives.

Industrial Efficiency 2020 – Decarbonise industry!
Time is running out to avert catastrophic consequences from global warming. Following IPCC’s wake-up call, bold and decisive action is needed now. With a third of global final energy consumption, industry has a key role in the transition ahead.
Regardless of the end-use sector, energy efficiency is key to decarbonisation, productivity gains, energy security, improved competitiveness and socio-economic benefits. Efficiency improvements also reduce costs associated with maintenance, production stand-still and insurance fees. And, importantly, this will have positive employment benefits throughout the economy.
Fast decarbonisation key challenge
The decarbonisation of industry presents a formidable challenge. In a few sectors, such as iron and steel, new carbon-free processes may lead to more electricity being used. Just going for renewables is not enough. By increasing efficiency across all sectors and end-uses we can free up resources to make this transition affordable and manageable.
Looking beyond carbon and energy
Industrial Efficiency 2020 will explore current and emerging trends in industry, such as new business models, digitalisation, industry 4.0, the circular economy and resource efficiency, and discuss the significance of these trends for delivering decarbonisation. The multiple benefits of energy efficiency are of particular interest.
Six panels on accelerating the decarbonisation
All presentations by participants are based on an abstract submission for any of the following five panels (for a complete description of the panels and presentation of the panel leaders, see the panels page).
- Policies and programmes to drive transformation
- Sustainable production towards a circular economy
- Energy management – in real life
- Technology, processes and systems
- Business models, finance and investment
- Deep decarbonisation of industry
Suitable both for those who just want to present…
eceee will accept abstracts both for peer-reviewed papers as well as for “extended abstracts”, that are not peer-reviewed and serve as a short description of your suggested presentation.
… and for those who want to write solid papers
You can choose the category peer-reviewed paper. Here, we are happy to announce that the part of eceee industrial proceedings based on peer-reviewed papers have now been accepted for inclusion in the Scopus index, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature..
How to submit
More information on how to submit your abstract is availablehere. Note that the submission portal will open in a few days. Join eceee in June! Submit your abstract by 9 December.

A vibrant and proud industry and harbour city
This event will take place in Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden. It is a proud and vibrant industrial and harbour city, traditionally open to the rest of the world. It is the hometown of several of Sweden’s world-famous manufacturing companies such as Volvo and SKF.
To ensure Industrial Efficiency 2020 becomes a success, eceee has partnered with Chalmers Industriteknik and co-operates with Chalmers University of Technology. Chalmers Industriteknik is a consulting company in industrial energy, materials, design and circular economy with its roots in Chalmers University
Compact format and mixed presentations
The conference format offers a mix of formal presentations, informal sessions, workshops, plenary sessions and side events. For formal panel presentations, participants are offered the opportunity to either present peer-reviewed papers or to make a presentation without an accompanying paper. In both cases, abstracts must be submitted by 9 December for selection by the group of panel leaders.
Abstracts will be selected blindly.
The event starts on Tuesday afternoon 16 June and ends at lunch on Thursday 18 June.
eceee welcomes you to three days packed with presentations, formal and informal sessions, and fantastic networking.
