There is some good news announced in the past few days:
- Congratulations to the IEA’s Sustainable Building Centre (SBC). The jury for the 2012 Energy Efficiency Innovator Awards has selected the International Energy Agency’s BEEP (Building Energy Efficiency Policies) database as the winner in its “Projects” category. Dr. Yamina Saheb received the award at a ceremony on 9 November in Monaco during the Euro-Mediterranean Energy Efficiency Forum. The IEA introduced the BEEP database in 2012 as part of its Sustainable Building Centre. SBC is the IEA’s international hub for buildings energy efficiency policies. SBC provides policy makers and industry with proven practices aiming to lowering energy demand of the buildings sector. BEEP offers analysis of more than 900 energy efficiency policy implemented in IEA 28 member countries, Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa and Tunisia.
- Australia’s government says it is “ready to join” a second phase of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. Climate Minister Greg Combet said Australia was making the move because more action was being taken internationally to tackle climate change and replace the Kyoto deal. The “second commitment” period for Kyoto could renew pledges to limit emissions until 2020. This will be welcome news before the next climate conference (COP 18) in Doha starting November 26th.
