The boss of a British technology firm has described the UK’s lack of energy efficiency as “completely bonkers” and has called on the Government to focus more on power conservation rather than new energy generation projects.
Drew Nelson, chief executive of IQE, the compound semiconductor maker, told the Financial Times that the UK was “pouring money down the drain” because it was not addressing energy efficiency. His calls follow the publication of the Government’s draft Energy Bill, which has been criticised for doing little to incentivise energy saving, even though the Government insists that energy efficiency is central to the Coalition’s green policy.

Drew Nelson is far from the only British businessman to hold this view. Our Government has just announced in its official Impact Assessment that the first result of its flagship energy efficiency Green Deal programme will be…a loss of jobs amongst those installing even basic, cost-effective insulation measures into British homes.
