  1. Medieval historians agree that a major stimulant of the Christian Reformation in the 16th Century was Catholic priests selling worthless “indulgents” to wealthier parishioners, to exculpate them miraculously from all of their sins.

    All too many providers of so-called carbon emission offsets seem to be offering a similar facility for purveyors of fossil fuels.
