The UK’s Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings has provided a valuable briefing on energy efficiency in old buildings. As they state, old buildings are sustainable, their very existence demonstrates this, but they can still frequently benefit from sensitive, well-informed energy efficiency measures. They knew that accurate information is a pre-requisite for good building conservation work so the Society started by commissioning an energy assessment of its own headquarters, which began life as a silk merchant’s house around 1740. And that is just the beginning of the Society’s investigation. The report is designed to help both owners and building professionals. Read the briefing to get a full account.
