Reuter’s news agency wrote in the Guardian about Germany blocking EU car emissions law. The article goes on that British-based consultancy Cambridge Econometrics researched how much Europe would save on oil imports if the 95 g/km target (which was stopped by Germany) was implemented across the EU fleet. It found the EU as a whole would save around 70 billion euros per year, while Germany would save 9 billion euros in fuel bills.
Alas, these savings will not be achieved. It is amazing that the vehicle manufacturers lobby is so powerful to stop such savings.

Well, it is true that the lobby has lots of power, but we as drivers can do a lot to reduce CO2 emissions depending on how we use our vehicles.
Take a look at this whitepaper from the CTL Centre for Transport and Logistics, Sapienza University of Rome.

Also, I’m wondering if in this “110% electronics everything” can’t somebody develop an “eco-driving” chip that modulates gas pedal behaviour. Isn’t anyone on this? Imagine something that releases engine power limiting the “weight” of your gas pedal (with a panic button for emergencies).
I’m sure we could save lots of fuel and emissions in ANY car.
Cheers
