Renewable Energy Winning Mind Share If Not Market Share

Renewable energy has not yet won the battle for market share over fossil fuels but it appears to be doing well when it comes to mind share, according to a survey by Dow Jones’ Factiva service.

Factiva counted the mentions of various forms of green energy in the world’s major print publications in 2002 and then in 2012. Stats for the mention of fossil fuels were not provided. The results:

Solar Energy

2002 Mentions: 3,984

2012 Mentions: 41,651

Increase: 950%

 

Biomass

2002 Mentions: 4,874

2012 Mentions: 39,824

Increase: 720%

 

Wind Power

2002 Mentions: 8,568

2012 Mentions: 61,554

Increase: 620%

 

Geothermal Energy

2002 Mentions: 861

2012 Mentions: 4,529

Increase: 430%
