One of the truly thoughtful experts in Europe about energy matters is Walt Patterson. He is trained as a nuclear physicist and has published thirteen books and hundreds of papers, articles and reviews, on nuclear power, coal technology, renewable energy, energy systems, energy policy and electricity. Since 1991 he has been a fellow of what is now the Energy, Environment and Development Programme at Chatham House in London. He is a visiting fellow of the Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex and is also on the editorial board of European Energy Review. It has been a pleasure to be one of Walt’s friends and colleagues since the 1980s.
Walt has a great website and recently he has made a significant addition to his website archive Walt Patterson On Energy. One of the most popular files in the archive is the PDF of the 1986 edition of his Penguin book Nuclear Power. It is downloaded more than 2000 times a month. Now, with the invaluable help of one of his friends and colleagues, Josep ‘Pep’ Puig, of the Grup de Cientifics i Tècnics per un Futur No Nuclear in Barcelona, he is also able to offer Spanish-speaking readers a download of the 1980 first edition of Nuclear Power in Spanish. You can download the Spanish edition from here.
A number of articles whose printed versions proved impossible to scan have also now been retyped, digitised and added to the site.
