Public buildings are required to display an energy performance certificate, as mandated by the recast of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. This is required for all buildings larger than 500 square metres. That threshold will drop to 250 square metres in 2015. The city hall of the 18th district (arrondissement) of Paris (where Montmartre is and close to the EiD office) has gone all out with an enlarged certificate that hangs on the outside of the building.
For those who want to know its energy performance, this photo should help.
In terms of energy performance, the building gets a D.
EiD went to one of Europe’s experts on display certificates, Bill Bordass, from the Usable Buildings Trust in the UK, to get his reaction. Bill was pleased, but then went one further by showing the following produced some years ago by Arup, using a photo of Sydney and the draft certificate design he developed in 2003 with the Europrosper research project.
Not bad!
If any of the EiD readers want to share their display certificates, please do. And follow the latest steps in the Neighbourhood Watch here.
